The course on "Aging and Physiology: Changes Over the Lifespan" provides a comprehensive exploration of the intricate relationship between aging and the human body's physiological alterations across various stages of life. Delving into a range of topics, the course navigates through the fundamental biological changes that occur in cells, organs, and organ systems as individuals age. It covers the multifaceted dimensions of aging, including cognitive, physical, and social aspects, shedding light on how these changes impact daily life. Discussions extend to advanced levels, exploring genetic, immunological, and endocrine influences on the aging process, as well as examining age-related diseases, neurodegenerative conditions, and strategies for promoting cognitive resilience. At the end of the program, students will receive a certificate & performance letter by the educator indicating that they have completed the program and acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen profession.
Aging and Physiology: Changes Over the Lifespan, by Victor Pereira
Victor Pereira is lecturer on education and Co-Chair of the Teaching and Teaching Leadership program (TTL). He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology and Master of Arts in teaching from Boston College. Prior to coming to HGSE, Pereira taught, coached, mentored and worked in many teacher-leadership roles for 14 years in Boston Public Schools. In 2012, Pereira was the Massachusetts Recipient of the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. Pereira has worked with the teacher preparation programs at HGSE in many different capacities since 2004 focused on developing new teachers and improving science teaching and learning in middle and high school classrooms. Pereira’s passion is helping science educators promote scientific literacy through authentic and relevant learning opportunities that prepare students to be informed and engaged citizens.
